UK Seeks Extradition of Tate Brothers from US
Prosecutors have formally requested the transfer of Andrew and Tristan Tate from the U.S. to face 59 charges in the United Kingdom, including rape and sex trafficking.
Prosecutors in the United Kingdom have submitted a formal request to the U.S. for the extradition of brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate to face charges including rape and sex trafficking. The U.S. State Department received the requests last week and is now reviewing them to ensure compliance with the extradition agreement between the two nations.
Andrew Tate, 39, is wanted for trial in the UK on charges including 10 counts of rape, three counts of facilitating sex trafficking, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and offenses related to indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces five counts of rape, six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, three counts of sex trafficking, and a sexual assault charge.
The brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, deny all allegations. Their lawyer, Joe McBride, stated that he would challenge the extradition requests, alleging that British authorities failed to provide the necessary supporting documents as required by the extradition agreement. McBride also claimed that the brothers had not received the extradition requests themselves or documents providing a reasonable basis for the accusations.
The Tate brothers were taken into U.S. custody in July after the UK announced new charges. They were previously held in Florida and lost a bid for release on bail last week. UK authorities had a deadline of September 16 to submit the full extradition request.
According to the State Department, the extradition process will involve further legal steps, including review by the U.S. Justice Department and a court decision. Until then, the Tate brothers will remain in U.S. jail.
Formerly professional kickboxers, Andrew and Tristan Tate gained notoriety as social media influencers, with a significant online following, particularly among young men. They have been accused of promoting misogyny. Andrew Tate first gained public attention after appearing on the British reality television show "Big Brother" in 2016. The brothers also faced sex-trafficking charges in Romania in 2022 and were under a travel ban there until they were permitted to travel to the U.S. in 2025.
