Dale Harvey, who has embarked on a mission to visit every pub in the United Kingdom, recently celebrated reaching his 10,000th establishment. The milestone was marked with a pint at Teuchters in Edinburgh, Scotland. Harvey estimates the total number of pubs across the UK to be around 35,000 and aims to visit them all.
Harvey, a resident of Nottingham and a member of the Campaign for Real Ale National Executive, began his quest in March 2022 with the initial goal of visiting every pub in Nottinghamshire. The endeavor has since expanded into a nationwide undertaking, now occupying four days of his week. His journeys, which span England, Scotland, and Wales, have garnered significant attention on social media, with advertising revenue from his online presence covering his expenses.
On average, Harvey consumes half a pint at each pub and visits between 15 and 20 establishments per day. Reflecting on his achievement, the man in his mid-40s described the milestone as "surreal," stating he never anticipated reaching 10,000 pubs when he started over four years ago. He mentioned plans for a holiday to Fuerteventura to rest before resuming his pub crawl.
Harvey has also used his platform to highlight the challenges faced by licensed businesses, pointing to "ever-rising costs" as a significant pressure. He expressed a strong determination to complete his goal, partly motivated by a desire to prove his wife wrong. "And any time my wife tells me I'll never do something, that makes me 10 times more determined to go through with it," he said. He concluded by raising a pint, stating, "Here's to the next 10,000. I'm certainly not going to stop. I'm not going to slow down."
