A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and rain is in effect for parts of eastern England until Friday morning. The Met Office advises that areas covered by the warning could experience frequent lightning, hail, and strong, gusty winds in addition to heavy rainfall.
Elsewhere across the United Kingdom, the day is expected to bring showers and spells of rain, with a risk of heavy downpours and thunderstorms, particularly in western Scotland, Wales, and northwest England. Some of this wet weather may spread eastward later in the day, with thunderstorms possible in northeast England and eastern Scotland.
Following recent warm and humid conditions, temperatures are anticipated to feel cooler by Friday. England and Wales can expect highs of around 20–23 degrees Celsius (68–73 degrees Fahrenheit), while Scotland and Northern Ireland will see temperatures between 16–20 degrees Celsius (61–68 degrees Fahrenheit). These temperatures are considered average for late August.
The unsettled weather pattern is predicted to continue throughout the bank holiday weekend, with a likelihood of showers, prolonged rain, and thunderstorms at various times.
