The United Kingdom is set to experience a final burst of summer warmth this weekend, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 27C (81F) in some areas, particularly the south-east. This heat is anticipated to draw thousands to events like the Big Food and Wine Weekend at Ascot.

While the south-east could see highs of 27C or even 28C on Sunday, other regions will experience slightly cooler weather. The Midlands can expect temperatures around 25C, Wales 24C, and the south-west 23C. Northern England is forecast for 22C, and Northern Ireland 20C. Scotland's temperatures will be lower, ranging from 15C in the Orkney and Shetland Islands to 17-19C on the mainland.

Despite these regional variations, the weekend temperatures are expected to be several degrees above the seasonal average. Racegoers at Ascot on Saturday were seen enjoying food stalls, barbecue displays, and live cooking demonstrations under sunny skies.

However, this warm spell is expected to be short-lived. Cooler Atlantic air and rain are forecast to arrive early next week, signaling the definitive end of summer and the onset of autumn. This contrasts with conditions in parts of Europe, where France and Spain have recently endured temperatures exceeding 40C.

Temperatures are expected to reach 27C or 28C on Sunday as racegoers head to Ascot to enjoy one last burst of heat before the autumn weather kicks in
