Nico Iamaleava, UCLA's quarterback, has shared his first public statements since suffering a knee injury that has ended his current season. In an Instagram post, Iamaleava acknowledged the disappointment of his season concluding prematurely due to the injury sustained during the game against Oregon.

"Well, I’m heartbroken the way my season ended," Iamaleava wrote on the social media platform. "I’ve finally accepted that this year is really over for me. This wasn’t a part of the plan, but I believe everything happens for a reason."

He added, "I gave this game and my brothers everything I had and I’ll continue to lean on God and trust His plan. I’ll be back."

Iamaleava suffered the injury earlier this month when he was tackled by two defenders during the game against Oregon. He has another season of eligibility remaining.

This season, Iamaleava completed 62.1% of his passes for 982 yards, with four touchdowns and four interceptions in parts of five games. UCLA coach Bob Chesney stated that Iamaleava was awaiting surgery, with his recovery timeline dependent on the procedure and his body's response.

In Iamaleava's absence, quarterback Ty Dieffenbach has stepped in, leading the Bruins to victories against Wisconsin and Michigan State after their win over Oregon. UCLA, currently ranked No. 7 with a 7-0 record, is set to play Nevada in a nonconference game at the Rose Bowl on Saturday. This marks their first 8-0 start since 2005 if they secure the win.

The future starting quarterback position for the Bruins remains uncertain for the next season, given Dieffenbach's remaining eligibility and the ongoing recovery process for Iamaleava.
