A 4-year-old and his 7-year-old brother embarked on a dangerous joyride in their parents' car Thursday morning in Oakland, California, ultimately striking a woman walking a dog and crashing into a home.

The Oakland Police Department reported that the siblings took the white Toyota sedan and were traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on 35th Avenue at Mangles Avenue. The vehicle sideswiped another car traveling in the opposite direction before careening off the road.

The out-of-control sedan then hit a woman in a crosswalk who was walking a dog. The impact sent the car into a home on the corner. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with one stating that one boy appeared to be steering while the other operated the pedals.

Images from the scene showed the car on the sidewalk, its front end damaged. The woman, described as being in her 30s, was transported to a hospital and listed in critical condition. The two brothers were reported to be in stable condition.

The boys' uncle told reporters that the children took the car keys while their parents were sleeping. He stated that the 7-year-old sustained a broken leg, and the 4-year-old suffered a concussion. The parents are reportedly cooperating with law enforcement.
