Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a black Audi A3 allegedly traveled on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with another vehicle in Southampton. The driver of the other car sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson stated that officers initially observed the Audi speeding away from them in Blechynden Terrace around 2:20 p.m. They later encountered the vehicle again at the junction of Shirley Road, Roberts Road, and Waterloo Road, where it had already crashed into a Vauxhall Corsa.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:18 p.m. The driver of the Corsa sustained injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, while one occupant of the Audi received minor injuries. The Audi reportedly smashed through a brick wall after the impact, leaving wreckage at the scene. A significant police presence and cordon were established following the incident.

Witnesses described the sound of the crash as "absolutely horrendous." One resident noted the proximity of the collision to her neighbor's flat, expressing concern about the potential for further damage.

This incident follows a series of recent high-profile crashes involving dangerous driving. In one incident, seven people died when a Volkswagen Passat traveling the wrong way on the A66 in Middlesbrough collided head-on with a police car after a pursuit. This crash occurred days after five teenagers died in a stolen BMW that was traveling the wrong way down the M9 motorway in County Kildare, Ireland, after attempting to evade police. The occupants of the other vehicle in the Ireland crash, a group of three sisters and a young boy, suffered serious injuries.
