Two siblings in Alabama died and another was critically injured in a single-vehicle car crash on Friday. The incident occurred near Steele, Alabama, when a 16-year-old identified as Alonso Alvarado, who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Alonso Alvarado was pronounced dead at the scene. His 10-year-old sister, Lia Alvarado, was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Their older brother, Juan Alvarado, sustained serious injuries and underwent surgery. His current condition is reportedly unknown.

Maria Morales, a relative, shared the news of the crash and initiated a fundraiser, stating, "Our family is heartbroken and trying to process an unimaginable amount of pain all at once." She added, "Rest in peace, Alonso Alvarado and Lia Miriam Alvarado. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten."

The siblings were students in the St. Clair County School district. Superintendent Rusty St. John expressed his condolences, saying, "There is nothing I can say that makes a day like this any easier."

Staffers at a head start center where Lia previously attended described her as a "sweet girl." Stephanie Nelson, who assisted with a Christmas in July event, recalled knowing Lia since kindergarten and called it "such a gift getting to know her over the years."

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the cause of the crash. Officials have confirmed that none of the three occupants in the truck were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
