Tom Tugendhat is slated to replace Priti Patel as the Conservative Party's shadow foreign secretary, according to reports from BBC News and the Daily Telegraph. The change is expected to be part of a broader reshuffle of Kemi Badenoch's front bench team.

Patel announced on social media that she would be stepping down from the role to pursue a new position focused on strengthening international ties with allied parties and center-right movements globally. This move follows the recent resignation of shadow housing secretary Sir James Cleverly, who intends to run for London mayor.

The upcoming reshuffle was anticipated due to the impending maternity leave of shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho. While there had been speculation about other potential changes, including the possibility of Mel Stride's departure as shadow chancellor, sources within the party have previously downplayed these rumors. However, some still believe Badenoch might consider replacing Stride.

Coutinho is widely viewed within the party as a potential future shadow chancellor, having impressed colleagues with her performance in parliamentary and media engagements. Nevertheless, it is considered unlikely that Badenoch will appoint her to the shadow chancellor position while she is on maternity leave.
