The White House communications team posted a tribute to pop superstar Taylor Swift on X, formerly Twitter, late on Thursday, imitating her highly popular Eras Tour imagery. The post, which featured a collage including images of President Trump and past presidents alongside iconic American achievements like the moon landing and the end of World War II, was shared ahead of Swift's wedding to NFL player Travis Kelce on Friday.
The caption for the post, "It’s been a long time coming…," was a direct reference to a line Swift used to promote her tour. This gesture comes despite a history of public animosity between Trump and the singer.
Trump's past comments on Swift have ranged from apparent support in the early 2010s to sharp criticism after her political endorsements. In 2018, Swift publicly endorsed a Democratic candidate, leading Trump to remark that he liked her music "about 25% less now." Later, during the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump claimed credit for the Music Modernization Act, asserting Swift could not endorse his opponent because of it. Swift subsequently endorsed Kamala Harris, prompting a social media reaction from Trump where he declared, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"
In the summer of 2025, Trump referred to Swift as a "Woke singer" and suggested she was "NO LONGER HOT" after a Super Bowl appearance. However, when asked about Swift's relationship with Kelce in August 2025, Trump adopted a more positive tone, calling them "a great player," "a great guy," and "a terrific person," and wished them luck.
Swift and Kelce were scheduled to marry on Friday at Madison Square Garden, with an expected attendance of over 1,000 guests, including numerous celebrities.
