President Donald Trump is set to present the FIFA World Cup trophy to the victors of Sunday's final match between Spain and Argentina, a White House official confirmed to Fox News.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously stated that he and Trump would present the trophy to the winning captain on the field at New York/New Jersey Stadium. "A fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America's ability to host the world on the grandest stage," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the President's attendance.

Trump has prior experience with FIFA trophy presentations, having been on stage following Chelsea's victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup final in July 2025 at MetLife Stadium.

Earlier in the World Cup, President Trump intervened in a controversy regarding a red card issued to Team USA player Folarin Balogun. Trump contacted Infantino to request a review of the call, which resulted in Balogun being deemed eligible for the Round of 16 match after an initial suspension.

While Trump has not attended a World Cup match prior to this final, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was present at the U.S. Men's National Team's opening game on June 12, which ended in a 4-1 victory against Paraguay. In December, President Trump received the first FIFA Peace Prize at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during the World Cup final draw. President Trump has recently attended other sporting events, including Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden and UFC Freedom 250. An IndyCar race is also scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., next month.
