Former President Donald Trump suggested renaming the U.S. state of New Mexico to "New America" on Sunday, during a lengthy social media session on his Truth Social platform. Trump, who has previously proposed similar name changes for geographical features like the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, stated on Truth Social that "many people suggested changing the name of New Mexico, one of the great vote cheating states of all time, to NEW AMERICA." He shared an AI-generated video depicting the name change and an image of the altered state map.
This proposal was part of a broader online activity that included more than 60 posts between Sunday morning and late evening. The messages encompassed a range of content, such as personal attacks, endorsements, boasts, and AI-created imagery. Trump shared a video of his golf swing and criticized Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), referring to her as "dingbat" and referencing her emotional response following her husband's death.
Other posts included an image of Trump resembling pro wrestler Hulk Hogan, a proposed U.S. Space Force uniform that critics likened to "Star Wars" villain attire, and an image of Trump in a space station appearing to launch a missile at Earth. He also posted an image asserting U.S. ownership of the moon.
Throughout the day, Trump also directed criticism at Canada and Iran, mocked Democrats, and accused other countries of unfair trade practices. He shared AI-generated images of himself with George Washington and discussed his stock trading, which he characterized as being for the benefit of the U.S.
In line with his past social media habits, Trump also targeted a celebrity, posting an AI-altered image of actor Robert De Niro.
