Donald Trump has requested that a New York federal judge not compel him to pay $5 million to E. Jean Carroll, who a jury found he sexually abused, until the Supreme Court has had an opportunity to review his appeal. The request seeks to pause the payment obligation while the nation's highest court considers his case.
The civil case, initiated by Carroll in 2022, alleged defamation and battery. Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in New York City in the spring of 1996. A jury trial in New York found Trump liable for the charges and awarded Carroll $5 million in damages.
