President Donald Trump said his youngest son, Barron Trump, “was very hurt” by the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, speaking about the family’s reaction during an interview on Fox & Friends.

Trump told the morning show that Barron, 19, who has recently moved back to the White House while attending New York University’s Washington, D.C., campus, had admired Kirk and once asked his father for an introduction. "Barron came to me and he said, ‘Dad, I’d like to meet somebody that you know, Charlie Kirk,' ... I thought he was gonna say he wanted to meet like King Charles or something… and he came back said, ‘That guy’s great, Dad. That guy’s great.' It was cute," Trump said. "He was very hurt when he saw this. But, I mean, everybody was."

Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed at an event at Utah Valley University. Trump said during the interview that a suspect was in custody, attributing that information to law enforcement developments; authorities investigating the shooting have not yet released a full account of circumstances or motive.

Trump also described Kirk’s appeal to young people, saying, "Charlie had a magic over the kids and large numbers of them, and very diverse, black, white. I mean, everybody, the young women and boys, and I’ve never seen anything like it." The president’s remarks framed the shooting as a loss felt across generational and demographic lines within conservative circles.

The shooting has drawn national attention and prompted renewed discussion about security at political and public events. Local and federal investigators remain engaged in the inquiry, and police have urged the public to rely on official updates as the investigation proceeds.

Barron Trump, who turned 19 earlier this year, has split time between the White House and college since enrolling at NYU. The president’s comments offered a personal window into his family’s response to the killing and underscored the broader emotional impact the slaying has had among supporters of Kirk.

News organizations and officials have been reporting developments about the shooting since it occurred, and more details are expected as investigators release additional findings. The case continues to be followed closely by national media and political figures across the spectrum.
