President Donald Trump stated that he was moved from Air Force One to a different aircraft after a trip to Turkey last month due to a security threat, though he downplayed its significance.
Trump described the maneuver, which involved him using an airport catering container to board another plane while Air Force One served as a decoy, as an extraordinary but necessary precaution. He told reporters that the Secret Service and military recommended the change. "I guess there was a threat out there. I didn’t really ask too much about it," Trump said, adding, "I get a lot of threats."
In other political developments, U.S. inflation showed signs of slowing in July, with a measure of underlying price pressures also cooling. Consumer prices increased 3.4% from a year ago, a slight decrease from June's 3.5%, according to the Labor Department. This moderation suggests that rising oil and gas prices stemming from the Iran conflict have had a limited impact on broader economic costs. Inflation, however, remains higher than the 2.4% recorded before the conflict began in February.
Trump also issued an executive order aimed at altering the childhood immunization schedule, proposing that vaccine shots be spaced out over separate visits. This initiative aligns with Trump's long-held view, contrary to guidance from medical groups, that childhood vaccines should be administered in smaller doses over an extended period.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan secured a victory in the Minnesota Democratic Senate primary, defeating U.S. Rep. Angie Craig. Flanagan's campaign focused on combating corporate influence and confronting Trump, positioning her win as a success for progressive insurgents within the Democratic Party.
