A competition featuring teenagers from across the United States, Donald Trump's "Patriot Games," is set to conclude on Tuesday, with participants vying for a $250,000 scholarship fund. The event, organized by Freedom250, is part of the U.S. government's commemoration of the country's 250th birthday.

Competition Details

The games, held at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, involve a series of physical challenges designed to assess strength, endurance, agility, teamwork, and perseverance. The events began on Sunday and will culminate in a finale on Tuesday evening. President Trump is expected to attend the final event, according to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

One hundred and twenty student athletes, aged 14 to 17, are participating. Two students, one male and one female, were selected from each of the 50 states. The competition also includes athletes from U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and Guam, military bases, and tribal nations. To be eligible, competitors had to be U.S. citizens, residents of their represented state or territory, and in good academic standing. Applicants submitted videos detailing their desire to compete, and a selection committee reviewed these submissions.

Event Schedule and Challenges

Sunday's events included qualifying rounds, kickball, and dodgeball. On Monday, athletes participated in a "varsity circuit" that tested various athletic skills, including football throwing, tennis ball catching, soccer kicking, volleyball spiking, wiffle ball hitting, and sprinting. This was followed by "operation endurance," an obstacle course featuring army crawling, net climbing, tire lifting, monkey bars, and balance beams.

Tuesday's schedule includes a tug of war, "victory hoops" (an arcade-style basketball shooting game), the semifinal round, and the final competition.

Prizes and Broadcast

A male winner and a female winner will each receive a $125,000 scholarship, with competitions separated by gender. The games are being streamed live on ESPN through August 11. A one-hour prime-time special summarizing the event is scheduled to air on ABC on August 13 at 9 p.m. ET.

Broader Commemorative Efforts

The Patriot Games are one of several semiquincentennial celebrations organized by Freedom250. Previous events have included a UFC fight at the White House, a presidential State Fair on the National Mall, and a fireworks display on July 4th. Trump has described the Patriot Games as an event that will "showcase the extraordinary talents that thrive across our country, proving to the world that the American competitive spirit is stronger and more vibrant than ever before."
