President Donald Trump has withdrawn his nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper, to lead the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The White House listed the nomination as withdrawn on Thursday, marking the latest development in a shake-up at the Department of Homeland Security.
Schroyer, a personal friend of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, had been nominated by the president to head ICE. His selection had reportedly drawn scrutiny from some lawmakers who questioned his qualifications for the role.
Senator Rand Paul, the Chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, had previously placed a hold on Schroyer's nomination. Paul had requested additional information from the Department of Homeland Security concerning two federal officer-involved killings of American citizens that occurred earlier this year in Minneapolis. This action effectively blocked the confirmation process.
