President Trump displayed an unexpected reaction of apparent amusement Friday night when journalists were honored at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for their reporting on his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. The group of reporters from The Wall Street Journal received the Katharine Graham Award for Courage and Accountability for their investigative work.
The report specifically detailed a birthday card and drawing purportedly created by the president and given to the late financier. Following the publication of this story last year, Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal.
During the ceremony, video showed Trump smiling and laughing as the honorees accepted their award. At one point, the president appeared to mouth “I don’t know,” while playfully raising his hands. He then proceeded to shake hands with each reporter who contributed to the story.
