President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he intends to nominate Lance Schroyer, a veteran law enforcement officer from Oklahoma, as the new director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a social media post, Trump described Schroyer as "a PATRIOT with real operational experience, and proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst." The president stated that Schroyer, who has 29 years of law enforcement service in Oklahoma, will be tasked with enforcing the administration's policies regarding undocumented immigrants.

Schroyer's career includes service as an Oklahoma State Trooper and a U.S. Marine. He currently holds a position as a senior advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security.

David Venturella has been serving as the acting director of ICE since May 31, following the departure of Todd Lyons.
