President Donald Trump displayed a headline touting a sharp decrease in prescription drug prices, attributing the development to his administration's efforts. However, the article he held up also mentioned that some experts believe a policy enacted during the Biden administration is more likely responsible for the cost reductions.
While boarding Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, Trump showed reporters a printout of a Washington Post article with the headline, "Prescription drug prices record sharpest drop in more than 60 years." He encouraged photographers to capture him holding the article, stating, "And I told you that was going to happen."
The Washington Post article, however, further elaborated that "some experts said a Biden-era policy that requires Medicare to negotiate prices for some popular prescription drugs is more likely to be driving down costs." These experts were cited in the report as pointing to the Biden administration's policy as the primary driver of the declining prices.
