Former President Donald Trump stated he is "happy" that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have left the United States, expressing that he was "not a fan" of the couple. Trump made these remarks to reporters in the Oval Office when asked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's departure from California.
"I thought they treated the royal family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles," Trump said, specifically criticizing Markle's behavior toward the late Queen Elizabeth II and her treatment of King Charles.
Trump, who has previously expressed admiration for the British royal family, noted that if he were in a position to decide, he would not have accepted them back. "I wouldn’t have taken them back," Trump added. "If I were the royal family, I would. I would not have taken him back."
Queen Elizabeth II hosted Trump for a state visit during his first term, and King Charles hosted him for a state visit in his second term. Trump, in turn, hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla for a state visit in April.
