President Donald Trump reported a "very good conversation" with the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, discussing a range of bilateral issues and agreeing to a future meeting.

In a social media post, Trump stated that he and Burnham spoke about "North Sea Oil, Trade, the Military Alliance, Demining of the Hormuz Strait, and many other topics." He added that the call was "interesting, and went very well," and expressed confidence that Burnham "will be able to do it" despite facing a "big job ahead."

This initial positive exchange contrasts with Trump's relationship with Burnham's predecessor, Sir Keir Starmer. Trump recalled his first call with Starmer as having gone similarly well, but their subsequent relationship deteriorated due to disagreements over energy policy, immigration, and Iran. Trump specifically criticized Starmer's approach to energy, stating, "you have windmills all over the place... In the meantime, you have the North Sea oil and they won't let anybody drill."

Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with Starmer's stance on NATO, suggesting it had hindered the prime minister politically. He recounted a disagreement over a joint US-Israeli operation against Iran in late February, where Starmer reportedly indicated support only after the operation's conclusion. Trump characterized Starmer's response as "worse than no."
