Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed Saritha Komatireddy, the Republican candidate challenging New York Attorney General Letitia James, intensifying their ongoing political feud. Trump announced his "complete and total endorsement" of Komatireddy on his Truth Social platform, calling James the "Most Corrupt Attorney General in the Country."
Trump's backing of Komatireddy, whom he previously nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in 2020, adds a new dimension to his years-long dispute with the Democratic attorney general. James successfully sued Trump and The Trump Organization in 2022, alleging fraudulent inflation of asset values on financial statements. While an appeals court later overturned the nearly $465 million financial penalty, deeming it an excessive fine, the legal battle has remained a point of contention.
In his statement, Trump characterized James as a "Complete and Total Disaster" and accused her of pursuing "WITCH HUNT" investigations against him while crime escalates in New York. He contrasted James with Komatireddy, highlighting the Republican candidate's background as a former federal prosecutor, chief of staff for the Drug Enforcement Administration, and a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Trump outlined Komatireddy's platform, stating she would "fight tirelessly to Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Grow our Economy, Champion our Law Enforcement and First Responders, Support our Military/Veterans, Advance Election Integrity, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Uphold our Constitution, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment."
Komatireddy, who has been critical of James's handling of fraud investigations, expressed gratitude for Trump's endorsement. "I was honored to be nominated to be a federal judge by the President in 2020 and I’m honored to receive his endorsement today. I’m working hard to win the support of all New Yorkers and defeat Letitia James this November," Komatireddy stated on X.
Letitia James's campaign was contacted for comment regarding Trump's endorsement and statements. The election is set to take place in November.
