Former President Donald Trump has stated that he was not aware of specific cryptocurrency investments that yielded him approximately $1.2 billion during his time in office, asserting that his sons managed his business affairs.
"I’ve always made money," Trump told CNBC, referencing his business background. "I’m a business person. I’m a really good business person. I made money. I made a tremendous amount of money."
He explained that others invested his income, and he did not know who these individuals were. "I let people invest it. I don’t even speak to – I don’t even know who they are," he said. "My son Eric handles it. I don’t talk to him about things such as this."
Trump's most recent financial disclosure report indicated earnings of about $1.2 billion from various crypto holdings last year. He maintained to CNBC that he had no knowledge of these particular investments.
"I didn’t. There’s nothing illegal with that. I could know," Trump stated, adding that there is no feasible requirement to recuse oneself from every decision made while leading the country that could potentially relate to personal interests.
Regarding potential conflicts of interest, Trump expressed a broader view on cryptocurrency. "The way I view crypto is a little differently. We have to be at the top, otherwise China is going to take it over," he said.
