President Donald Trump confirmed Wednesday that he plans to hold a third meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year. The president did not provide a specific date for the summit, though reports have suggested it could take place in November.
Trump stated his positive relationship with Kim is beneficial. "I get along with him, and you know what? The fact that I get along with him-that’s a good thing, not a bad thing," he told reporters at the White House.
During the same exchange, Trump disclosed that North Korea possesses "57 very powerful nuclear weapons." Past intelligence assessments have placed North Korea's nuclear warhead count between 50 and 60, but Trump's comment marked the first time a U.S. official has provided a specific number.
"Should have never allowed it to happen," Trump added, referring to North Korea's nuclear program. "They should have never allowed it. If I were president, I wouldn’t have allowed it. But he’s got them."
