Former President Donald Trump alleged Tuesday that the July 13, 2024, attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania, was part of a "Democratic plot" orchestrated against him.
"Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA," Trump posted on Truth Social, referencing newly revealed information about the shooter, Thomas Crooks. "By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone. New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago? This was all a Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed."
Trump also criticized former FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom he appointed during his presidency. "Dirty Cop [former FBI Director] Christopher Wray should pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said."
Reports on Monday revealed that Crooks had used the pseudonym "Bob Dole" to conceal purchases made in preparation for the shooting. The would-be assassin had also unnerved his father with his quiet demeanor.
Trump had previously nominated Wray to lead the FBI, a decision he made based on advice from former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
