President Trump announced Friday that the United States will receive 50% of the profits from goods crossing the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, which connects Michigan and Canada. The declaration came days after his administration imposed substantial tariffs on goods from Canada.

"Canada disinvited the United States of America to the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge, which is fine, considering they are paying substantial TARIFFS to the United States, but the original Deal on the Bridge, which was terribly negotiated by a previous Administration, no longer stands," Trump said in a social media post. He added, "We changed the terms of the Deal so that the United States of America now gets 50% of the Profit."

The $4.5 billion bridge, named in honor of Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe, is scheduled to open to traffic on Monday. A small ceremony was held on Friday featuring Windsor, Ontario Mayor Drew Dilkins and other Canadian officials, without the presence of any U.S. federal or state representatives.
