Former President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, referring to her as 'Milk Toast' in a Truth Social post on Friday. Trump also asserted that his administration achieved a significantly higher average daily arrest and removal rate for undocumented immigrants than any previous president, including Barack Obama.
In his post, Trump targeted what he described as attempts by anchors, pundits, Democrats, and communists to suggest that Obama's immigration enforcement numbers were comparable to his own. He expressed a desire for figures like Bream to offer more resistance to such claims. The term 'Milk Toast' could be a nickname or a reference to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary definition of someone who is timid or unassertive. It remains unclear why Trump specifically mentioned Bream.
Trump claimed his administration held the "Highest Average Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP, including Total Detention, with Final Orders of Removal, than any other president, by far!" He also stated that his administration "removed many more Illegal Aliens under President Trump than under Obama. It's not even close!"
This is not the first time Trump has publicly criticized Bream. In May 2024, he called her 'naïve' on Truth Social after she reportedly suggested that President Joe Biden was not involved in his "Show Trial." Trump later described Bream as 'anti-MAGA.' Earlier in 2026, he commented that Bream hosted a "not very hard hitting show" following an interview with Democratic Representative Jake Auchincloss, and suggested she should challenge and correct what he characterized as "Democrat propaganda and lies" from guests.
On Friday, Bream appeared on America's Newsroom on Fox News, discussing a Supreme Court ruling on Temporary Protected Status. A transcript of her appearance did not indicate any mention of Barack Obama or comparisons to Trump's immigration policies. Trump's Truth Social post criticizing Bream came approximately 40 minutes after her segment concluded.
Trump is currently appealing a conviction on falsifying New York business records, which occurred the day after his May 2024 criticism of Bream. He also noted that he was "not necessarily thrilled to be talking about it" regarding immigration statistics, implying that the numbers themselves might not sound appealing, but he endorsed a renaming of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to reflect this focus.
