President Donald Trump's approval rating has seen a notable increase, reaching 47 percent in the latest Daily Mail/JL Partners survey conducted from June 19 to 21. This marks his highest approval rating of 2026, a significant rise from the consistent 43 percent seen over the preceding three months. The surge in approval is attributed by analysts to the administration's efforts to broker an end to the war in Iran and a subsequent drop in oil prices.
Iran Peace Talks and Economic Impact
The White House has reported progress in de-escalating the conflict in Iran, a development that has positively impacted global markets. President Trump signed a memorandum of understanding to extend a ceasefire and work towards a final peace agreement. This diplomatic push has been met with favorable market reactions, including a decline in gasoline prices within the U.S. The average price for regular grade gasoline has fallen to $3.93 per gallon, down from $4.52.
President Trump highlighted the increased flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, stating on social media that "19 million barrels of oil flowed out of the Hormuz Strait yesterday, an all time record." He added, "Oil prices are tumbling down, and the world is a much safer place."
Market Performance
The positive developments have coincided with a rally in U.S. stock markets. In June, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite both reached all-time highs on June 2, followed by the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting a record high on June 16. While these indices have seen slight declines since their peaks, the overall trend reflects investor confidence.
Voter Sentiment and Demographics
The poll, which surveyed voters from June 19 to 21, indicates that voter approval of the administration's handling of the economy has improved. In May, 59 percent of voters expressed concern over the state of the economy, with oil prices remaining elevated. The recent poll suggests a shift in perception, linking economic stability to the progress in resolving the conflict in Iran.
President Trump maintains strong support among his Republican base, with 82 percent approval. He also continues to hold a significant portion of Hispanic voters, with 45 percent approval, and White voters, with 46 percent approval. Black voters show 38 percent approval. Independent voters, however, remain less enthusiastic, with 38 percent approval.
JL Partners founder James Johnson commented on the poll findings, stating, "President Trump appears to have got a direct approval bump from the Iran deal, putting him on his second-highest rating of the year so far. That makes sense, given we know voters see a clear link between gas prices and the Iran conflict being open."
