President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit the United States on September 24. Artificial intelligence is expected to be a central theme during their discussions.
Trump made the announcement during remarks at the Environmental Protection Agency, where he discussed his administration's focus on developing AI data centers. "President Xi is coming over on September 24th," Trump said. "We talked about it when I was over in Beijing, and we'll be talking about it again."
President Trump emphasized the significance of artificial intelligence, calling it "probably the biggest thing anybody's ever seen." He stated that the United States must maintain a leading position in the technological race with China, adding, "Whoever wins that race is probably going to win, period."
The leaders last met in Beijing during Trump's visit earlier this year, an occasion where Trump extended an invitation to Xi for a White House visit. The White House had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke on Wednesday, discussing preparations for what Rubio described as a "very positive visit."
