An Australian traveler reported being subjected to prolonged harassment on a business class flight from Honolulu to Sydney after refusing to switch seats with a couple.

The passenger, identified as Sarah, stated that a woman initially asked if she would exchange her window seat for the husband's middle aisle seat. When Sarah declined, the woman allegedly responded, "It's going to be a long flight for you then."

According to Sarah, the woman continued to make her journey uncomfortable throughout the 10-hour flight. She claims the woman took pictures of her without consent and at one point refused to allow her to leave her seat to use the restroom. Sarah recounted telling a flight attendant about the photography, but felt the attendant's response was unhelpful. The flight attendant reportedly asked Sarah for her lunch order after she explained the situation.

During the flight, Sarah reported that the woman spoke about her to her husband, who had managed to swap seats with another passenger to sit in front of them. Sarah stated she felt "shaken" by the encounter, describing it as a "fight, flight or freeze mode" experience.

Sarah shared her experience on social media, where it garnered significant attention. Many users reportedly shared similar anecdotes of seat-swapping disputes on flights. Some suggested a tactic for declining such requests is to state, "I want my body to be correctly identified in a crash." The incident occurred in January 2025, but Sarah decided to share her story to encourage others to assert themselves in similar situations.
