Tracy Shaw marked her 53rd birthday with a renewed sense of gratitude for life, sharing heartfelt family photos amidst her ongoing battle with breast cancer. The Coronation Street actress, who was diagnosed in April after discovering a lump, expressed her deep appreciation for being alive as she continues her treatment.

Shaw shared celebratory moments on Instagram with her brother Karl and son Luca, 19, featuring beaming family snapshots. She conveyed her sentiments in a post: "53, & grateful. Visit from my brother #mrshaw, karl shaw. Luca just back from Truck festival, preparing for next weekends festival. Thank you #_lisa_Dawson for the the most amazing gifts, from a breast cancer survivor who just knows what to buy. Never been as grateful to be alive on a birthday. Looking forward to next years celebration."

She recently disclosed that her breast cancer is currently inoperable until the tumors shrink. In a tearful video update shared last week, Shaw explained that while chemotherapy has altered the shape of the lesions on her left breast from circular to oval, they have not decreased in size. She also confirmed that a lump found on her right breast was benign, consisting of cysts.

"My expectations were that judging by what personally I've gone through and what the chemo does... I thought they'd shrunk but basically they've gone from being circular to oval but not really shrunk in size," Shaw stated in the video. "I don't know what I was expecting. I think I'm just expecting some results of what I've felt, some results of what the body has had to go through to!"

Shaw first announced her diagnosis in May, sharing an emotional video detailing the emotional toll the news had taken. At that time, she revealed she would be starting chemotherapy the following week. She expressed the difficulty of facing each day with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, stating, "Each morning I wake up and know that I have to go into hospital and receive more news, which has been going on for a long time, that unknown… I just think, 'I can't go through with this anymore', but I've not even started my journey."

She also shared her fears that the cancer might be spreading, noting, "When I wake up and I've got really bad headaches or I can feel another twinge in my other boob, I just think, 'Oh, it's moving!'"

Following her announcement, Shaw had a significant portion of her hair cut off in preparation for chemotherapy, a common side effect of which is hair loss. She acknowledged the support from NHS staff and fellow patients beginning their treatment journeys alongside her.

Shaw is widely recognized for her role as Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, a character she portrayed from 1995 to 2003. Her character's storylines included a one-night stand with her friend's boyfriend, marriage to Ashley Peacock, and ultimately, her death when she was murdered by serial killer Richard Hillman. Shaw also briefly pursued a pop music career in 1998, releasing two singles.
