The Conservative Party has selected Ewan Cameron, a former Camden councillor, as its candidate for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election scheduled for October 8. The seat became vacant after Sir Keir Starmer resigned his parliamentary position to take on a role in international affairs.
Cameron previously served as a councillor for the Belsize ward from 1998 to 2002 and was a member of the council's development control committee. He also contested a seat in the May borough elections, securing 376 votes in the West Hampstead ward.
Cameron expressed his honor at being selected to stand in the upcoming by-election, stating, "This is the community where I have lived, raised my family and call home." He added that under Kemi Badenoch's leadership, the Conservative Party has developed clear, costed plans, including proposals to recruit 10,000 more police officers, abolish stamp duty on family homes, and reduce utility bills through their "Cheap Power Plan."
He will be competing against Sagal Abdi-Wali, the leader of Camden Council representing the Labour Party, and Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green Party. The deadline for candidate nominations is 4:00 PM BST on Tuesday.
