Newly released bodycam footage shows former NFL quarterback Tony Romo treating his field sobriety test with a pre-game warm-up routine. Romo was arrested last week in Wisconsin and charged with operating while intoxicated (OWI).
The arrest followed a traffic stop for "unsafe passing" on a Milwaukee highway. Romo, who was coming from a golf course, told the officer he had consumed "zero" drinks before asking to contact his attorney. The officer detained Romo and transported him to a nearby station for field sobriety tests.
During the tests, Romo told the officer, "Sorry, two back surgeries, I need to stand here," before performing stretches. Footage captured Romo limbering up in a parking garage before attempting the sobriety exercises, which included walking in a straight line.
After performing the tests, Romo asked, "Did I pass this test? No I didn't, huh?" He was subsequently cited for first-offense OWI and refusing to submit to a chemical test. The former NFL quarterback was released and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.
The incident and subsequent footage have drawn significant attention and commentary online, with many fans expressing surprise at Romo's pre-test routine.
During the traffic stop, officers also searched Romo's car and reported finding "a couple shooters." Romo questioned if they were alcoholic beverages, stating, "I don't think any of them were drank."
