A one-year-old boy was killed in Alachua County, Florida, after he wandered from his parents' yard and onto a nearby road. The tragedy occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
The toddler's parents were reportedly doing yard work outside their home when they realized the child was missing. After searching the immediate area, they discovered he had gone onto West Newberry Road near Northwest 182nd Street in Jonesville.
A 52-year-old driver in a westbound sedan failed to see the child and struck him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The motorist was not injured.
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office confirmed the child's death and extended condolences to the family. Investigators determined the collision was an accident, and no criminal charges are expected for the driver or the parents. The identities of those involved have not been released.
