A two-year-old child died and the child's mother was hospitalized following an incident at a $1 million mansion in Frankfort, Illinois, on Tuesday. Police responded to the home after receiving a report of an unresponsive child.
The toddler was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the child's death are currently unclear. Authorities found the mother inside the residence attempting self-harm and she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The identities of the mother and child have not yet been released.
Neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy. One resident, Carolyn Pappas, drew parallels to the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother facing charges in connection with the deaths of her children, which occurred during a suspected suicide attempt.
"This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community. You never think it's going to hit so close to home," Pappas told NBC Chicago.
Police stated, "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. We encourage our community to support one another with compassion, understanding, and strength as we navigate this difficult time together."
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
