TikTok content creator Rebecca Luna died on July 25 at the age of 49, following a battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Luna, who documented her experience with the condition and her choice to pursue Medical Aid in Dying (MAID), shared the news of her passing via a post on her TikTok account.
Luna's symptoms, which began in her late 40s, included episodes of blacking out during conversations and forgetting everyday tasks. She amassed over 47,000 followers after revealing her diagnosis on TikTok in April 2025. Her posts often chronicled doctor's appointments and her decision-making process regarding end-of-life options, where she also provided resources for others exploring similar paths.
As a single mother residing in British Columbia, Luna also addressed questions concerning the legal aspects of MAID. Her online visibility led to an encounter with singer Lily Allen, a meeting Luna had identified as a bucket list item.
In a final TikTok post, Luna explained her rescheduled death date, moving it from early August to July 25. She stated that while the decision was difficult, she felt compelled to prioritize herself, having experienced significant suffering throughout her life. Luna expressed that her illness made her body feel uncomfortable and unsafe, and that waiting further felt excessive. She reflected on her lifelong struggles, acknowledging that while they brought her pain, they also led to a deep self-understanding and an awareness of her own character.
Early-onset Alzheimer's affects a small percentage of the approximately seven million individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This form of the disease is often characterized by rapid cognitive decline and a life expectancy of around eight years from diagnosis.
In a GoFundMe campaign initiated to seek financial support due to her inability to work, Luna described the impact of her diagnosis. She wrote that she was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer's Disease at 48, having first experienced symptoms at 46. As a single mother to two children, she outlined her efforts to provide for her family despite her condition, with a prognosis of five to seven years. She expressed fear of leaving her children and mother behind without financial security, and requested support for rent, food, and medical expenses, with any remaining funds intended for her children. She also asked for shares of her page if donations were not possible.
Luna's passing was announced with a message stating, "Rebecca passed away July 25th at approximately 1:15 p.m. surrounded by her loved ones. Thank you for your support and privacy."
