Three Wendy's employees in Union, South Carolina, have been arrested for allegedly serving a customer food that had been retrieved from the trash and spat on. The incident occurred on May 31 after the customer complained about her initial order and requested a refund.
According to a police report, the employees offered to remake the order. However, the customer was reportedly given back the same food from her original order, which had allegedly been tampered with. After leaving the restaurant, the customer received a call from someone at the store claiming the food had been spat on and taken from the trash. Upon closer inspection, the customer realized the food was indeed the same as her initial order.
The customer then contacted the restaurant manager, who confirmed the incident after speaking with the employees involved. The three individuals, identified as Aaliyah Shuntai Sanders, 23, Trinity Lashell Rice, 19, and Shadela Crystal Holley, 19, were charged by the Union Public Safety Department with tampering with a human drug product or food item. Arrests were made between June 16 and June 22.
A spokesperson for Wendy's stated that the company is taking the matter very seriously and that the franchisee who owns the restaurant acted promptly to dismiss the employees. The spokesperson described the behavior as "wholly unacceptable" and not reflective of Wendy's values. The company confirmed it is working with law enforcement on the matter.
