Netflix has announced that the political thriller "The Diplomat" will return for its fourth season on Thursday, October 15. The upcoming season will feature eight episodes.
The new season's synopsis indicates that "two marriages threaten to eat each other alive" and that "one catastrophic moment" disrupts the peace previously brokered between the U.S. and the U.K. The official description also states that while Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, works to mitigate the fallout, President Grace Penn and Vice President Hal Wyler's conspiracy to acquire Russia's most powerful weapon propels the United States toward war. Kate and her associate Todd will reportedly unite to thwart the Grace-Hal alliance, which aims to destabilize the global balance of power.
Showrunner Debora Cahn described the season's dynamic as centered on the foursome of Kate, Hal, Grace, and Todd, who are depicted as two couples in a precarious situation. Cahn noted that their public professional roles are impacting their personal lives, leading to a shift in alliances where the bond between Grace and Hal creates a functional alliance between Kate and Todd.
"The Diplomat," created by Debora Cahn, debuted on Netflix in 2023 and has achieved critical and commercial success, earning multiple Emmy nominations. These nominations include Outstanding Drama Series and individual nods for Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, and Allison Janney.
Netflix subscriptions are available starting at $8.99 per month, with ad-free Standard and Premium plans offered at $19.99 and $26.99 per month, respectively.
