A detention deputy in Texas has been fired after taking and sharing photos of herself with jail inmates. Detention Deputy Karla Beltran was terminated from her position with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after posing for pictures with individuals in her custody.
The photos, which were posted on social media, show Beltran in uniform with several women separated by glass. In one image, Beltran makes a kissing face and flashes peace signs alongside two inmates making similar gestures. In another photograph, Beltran is seen sticking out her tongue and displaying a middle finger to the camera, while an inmate behind her does the same.
Beltran had been employed by the sheriff's department for only a few months, having begun her service on July 1. She was dismissed on Monday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies in the sheriff's office undergo a one-year probationary period, during which they can be terminated for failing to meet conduct standards.
