League City, Texas – Animal care officials are seeking the public's assistance in safely capturing a domestic cat found wandering the area covered in red dye. The feline, described as gray with matted red splotches, has become a subject of concern and discussion within the community.
League City Animal Care announced last week that its team is actively working to trap the animal and provide it with necessary care. However, they are urging residents to refrain from attempting to catch the cat or offer it food. Authorities stated that approaching the animal could hinder rescue efforts.
"We are aware of the cat that has been seen around the community with red dye or paint on her fur, and we want everyone to know this baby is not forgotten," League City Animal Care said in a statement. "Our team is actively working to safely trap and get this cat into our care so she can receive the attention she needs."
In an update on Monday, rescuers confirmed they were still working to safely capture the cat with the help of local cat caregivers familiar with the animal's usual locations.
Residents who spot the cat are asked to message League City Animal Care with the location and time it was seen, rather than trying to intervene themselves. Local law enforcement has not yet announced any investigations or potential charges related to animal cruelty in connection with the incident. Some community members have expressed concern that the red dye might be associated with illegal dog-fighting rings, though no official confirmation of such a connection has been made.
