A Texas man is accused of killing his estranged wife while their two young children were present in the apartment, according to an arrest affidavit. Jake Bigoni, 37, was found with a large blood stain on his shirt when police arrived for a welfare check on Aug. 12.

Officers responded to Bigoni's Plano, Texas, apartment after the estranged wife, Eliana Bigoni, failed to meet a friend for breakfast and concerns were raised about her safety due to the suspect's past violent behavior. Bigoni told police the stain was from cleaning his home and that his wife had visited earlier but had left. However, investigators determined the stain was blood and discovered a significant amount of blood and spatter inside the apartment.

Eliana Bigoni's body was found in the trunk of a white Hyundai in the garage of the apartment building. Police said the couple was separated and in the process of a divorce.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when Bigoni called his mother approximately 30 minutes before the welfare check, stating, "I have something to tell you. She's dead." He allegedly told her, "We got in a fight and she's dead." Eliana Bigoni was reportedly on her way to the apartment to collect her children, ages 2 and 5, who were unharmed but present during the incident.

Bigoni was initially charged with abuse of a corpse before a murder charge was added. He is currently being held without bond. The Collin County Medical Examiner has not yet released the official cause of Eliana Bigoni's death.
