The McMillan family of Coleman, Texas, has reported finding definitive proof of God's existence following a devastating house fire that destroyed their home while they were on vacation. The family returned to find that amidst the widespread destruction, three Bibles remained intact.
The blaze occurred on June 23 around 3:30 p.m. while the McMillans were vacationing in Colorado. Firefighters arrived to find the residence engulfed in flames. Due to extensive damage and roof collapse, responders had to remove an exterior wall to address inaccessible hot spots. Nearly everything the family owned was destroyed in the inferno.
Authorities have indicated that the fire was likely electrical in nature, originating somewhere in the master bedroom, and have ruled out arson. The family lost several pets in the fire, including four kittens and their mother, though three dogs survived.
Upon returning home 24 hours after the fire, the McMillans were able to recover a few important photographs, including their wedding portrait and family pictures. However, it was the discovery of three Bibles that brought them particular solace.
"It's just ironic that the important things stayed and the material things are gone. It's just proof that God does exist and that He's number one," Amy McMillan told KTXS. One Bible, found in her son's room where electronics were melted, remained undamaged. Two other Bibles, discovered in the living room, were blackened and wet on the outside but preserved within.
The McMillan family did not have insurance and has been relying on community support efforts. These include a GoFundMe page, a bake sale held on July 4 that raised $500, and a planned brisket dinner fundraiser for July 11. A local resident donated a camper trailer, which, along with additional supplies, allowed the family to prepare to move back home on July 7, coinciding with their son Lane's 12th birthday.
"We appreciate all the support from every single person that donated, prayed, and shared our story. When we get settled, we will pay it forward!" McMillan stated, expressing gratitude for the community's assistance.
