Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, presented a congressional recognition to singer Chris Brown and his tour mate Usher during a concert at AT&T Stadium near Dallas on Saturday. The honor, which was entered into the Congressional Record, celebrated the artists' impact.
Video from the event shows Crockett shouting, "We are here because of Chris Brown!" as Brown stood on stage. She was joined by State Rep. Venton Jones and music producer RoccStar for the announcement.
"We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level. And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So let’s give it up again for Chris Brown," Crockett stated. Brown, who was called "a real one" by the congresswoman, hugged Crockett and thanked her.
The recognition comes as Chris Brown has faced public scrutiny for past legal troubles. These include a 2009 guilty plea for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. More recently, he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an incident in 2023 where he allegedly struck a music producer with a bottle.
Crockett recently lost a Democratic primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas. Her office did not respond to requests for comment.
