John Giusti, a 46-year-old chiropractor from Granbury, Texas, has been identified as the first victim of a deadly flash flood that struck the Grand Canyon. Giusti was hiking and camping near the South Rim of the national park on Saturday when heavy rains caused the catastrophic flooding.
Giusti was on a trip with two friends, Timothy Smith and Brent Rosenkranz, both of whom remain unaccounted for. A total of 15 people are still missing following the event. Giusti's family described him as someone who "poured himself into helping others and brought tremendous energy to everything he loved." They also noted his passions included running, fast cars, and comic books.
Rescuers worked to evacuate approximately 50 people by air on Saturday. The incident prompted a significant response from park officials and emergency services as they searched for those still missing amid the floodwaters and debris.
