Temecula Valley Wine Country, located approximately 90 minutes from Los Angeles, has been nominated for Best Wine Region in USA Today’s 2026 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. This nomination adds to the region's growing list of national distinctions.

In 2024, the Temecula Valley secured the second position in the same USA Today readers' poll. The region is home to nearly 50 wineries, offering an accessible wine country experience for residents of Los Angeles and surrounding areas, without the need to travel to Northern California.

The Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association reports that more than 30 grape varieties are cultivated across the region, benefiting from a Mediterranean-like climate suitable for Italian, Rhône, and Spanish varietals. The area has also become a destination for activities beyond wine tasting, including vineyard views, intimate tasting experiences, dining, live music, and behind-the-scenes tours, which can extend a day trip into a full weekend getaway.

This is not the first major recognition for Temecula Valley's wine tourism. In 2019, Wine Enthusiast recognized it as one of the world’s Top Ten Wine Travel Destinations.

The history of winemaking in the valley dates back to 1820, when Spanish missionaries first planted wine grapes. The modern commercial wine industry began in 1968 with the establishment of the area's first commercial vineyard. Today, Temecula Valley stands as one of Southern California's prominent wine destinations, featuring numerous wineries and a tourism industry centered on tastings, dining, and vineyard experiences.

The latest nomination from USA Today offers the region another opportunity for national recognition.
