Two 17-year-old individuals were arrested following a shooting incident near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on Monday evening. The event caused widespread panic among park visitors, though no injuries were reported.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the parking lot adjacent to the boardwalk around 9 p.m. on August 3, 2026. Social media videos showed crowds of people, including families with children, fleeing the amusement park and seeking shelter in nearby businesses. At least five shots were reportedly fired.
Santa Cruz Police confirmed that the scene was secure and there was no active threat to the public after 10 p.m. The Santa Cruz Seaside Company, which manages the boardwalk, stated that the incident appeared to stem from a "small fight" and that they are cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with many hearing the gunshots and immediately taking cover. Videos circulating online depicted officers running toward the sound of gunfire while civilians rushed towards exits. The presence of children was noted as a factor contributing to the panic.
The two teenagers were arrested later in the city of Ceres. The Santa Cruz Police Department is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information to contact their Investigations Unit at 831-420-5995.
