A 79-year-old former teacher at Queen Elizabeth's Hospital school in Bristol has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of historical sex offenses against boys under the age of 16. David Wright, who also served as a boarding master and non-teaching employee at the all-boys institution, allegedly abused pupils during the 1980s and 1990s.
Wright appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Monday and denied each charge individually. He was permitted to sit in the dock due to his age and responded 'not guilty' to all counts. Wright was released on bail, with his trial scheduled to commence on November 15, 2027. A pre-trial hearing is set for May 28, 2027.
The charges follow a six-year police investigation into allegations of Wright's conduct at the school. Queen Elizabeth's Hospital, a fee-paying institution, educates boys between the ages of seven and 18, with over 750 pupils currently enrolled. Annual fees range from approximately £14,976 for junior pupils to £22,245 for senior students.
