Texas Christian University has reinstated press credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reversing a decision made days before the Horned Frogs' football season opener. The university's athletic department announced the restoration of credentials following productive discussions with the newspaper.
TCU had initially pulled the credentials for the Star-Telegram due to a report concerning the dismissal of senior safety Jacob Fields after an alleged locker room altercation. The Star-Telegram's reporter was unable to cover the team's season opener in Dublin, Ireland, where they faced the University of North Carolina, and instead had to report from the stands.
Ironically, Amon G. Carter Stadium, where the Horned Frogs play their home games, is named after the founder and publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The university stated, "We respect their role as an independent news source and voice in our community, and we look forward to the season ahead."
The Horned Frogs lost their season opener against UNC by a score of 15-10. The team is scheduled to host the Grambling State Tigers on September 12 for their next game.
