Creator Taylor Sheridan has officially canceled the planned "Yellowstone" spinoff "6666," citing his commitment to preserving the authenticity of the historic Four Sixes ranch.
Paramount+ announced the spinoff, which was intended to center on Sheridan's real-life Four Sixes ranch in West Texas, in February 2021. However, Sheridan revealed on the "Rodeo Time" podcast Monday that the project will not move forward.
"There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalize that ranch," Sheridan stated. "People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that."
Sheridan, who purchased the Four Sixes ranch with an investment group in early 2022 for an estimated $350 million, expressed a strong desire to protect the property and its legacy. He explained that he did not want to trivialize the lives and work of the real people who operate the ranch and raise their families there.
"So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them," Sheridan emphasized. "I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch."
The "6666" spinoff was slated to follow the "Yellowstone" character Jimmy Hurdstrom, portrayed by Jefferson White, during his time at the Four Sixes. White had previously indicated uncertainty about the project's development, telling the Daily Mail in December that he was unaware of any concrete plans for the spinoff.
"I kept my fingers crossed, but also, I’d be grateful if I got to do more and I’m grateful for what I got to do," White commented. "I don’t want to be selfish. We got a lot of great mileage out of that show."
The Four Sixes ranch is renowned in cowboy culture and encompasses three properties with extensive amenities. Sheridan has expressed deep dedication to the ranching lifestyle, with insiders describing him as highly protective of the historic property. He stated on the podcast that being the custodian of the ranch comes with a significant responsibility that requires extreme care.
